I Won 1st Place for the Poem Contest!

For today’s homeschooling, I learned about the Solar System and our galaxy.

When we were reading the science textbook together, Mom received a phone call.

It was a lady from Hawaii Agricultural Foundation, and she told Mom that I won 1st Place for the Poem Contest I entered!!! Because we thought that my poem did not win, we were so surprised and happy.

My poem will be displayed at the Hawaii State Capitol, and I hope that I can go there to see it too. I can’t wait!

Here’s the poem I wrote for the contest and the drawing I made afterwards:

Pineapple Dreams

By Ema Tiefel, 4th grade 8 years old

The sky smiled brightly

To the island silently

Where the pineapples grew.

Sweet and new

Juicy too

The children’s tongues meet

With the taste, oh so sweet

The fruit’s color’s like the sun

When the harvest is done

As people look high

Into the night sky

They eat the juicy fruit

As the moon comes by.

The plantation is streaked

With a giant sheet

Of pineapples mellow,

All bathed in yellow.

詩のコンクールで最優秀賞をもらいました！

今日のホームスクールでは、太陽系と私たちの銀河について学びました

科学の教科書を読んでいると、お母さんに電話がかかって来ました。

それは、「ハワイ・アグリカルチュラル・ファンデーション（ハワイ農業基金）」からで、以前応募した詩のコンクールで私の作品が最優秀賞に選ばれたという連絡でした！

落選したものと思い込んでいたので、びっくりしましたし、とてもうれしかったです。

私の詩は、ハワイ州庁舎に展示されることになるそうです。見に行けるといいなと思います。待ちきれないです！

私が応募した詩と、この詩のために書いた絵を載せます：

パイナップルの夢

エマ　小学４年生８歳

空は静かに

明るく笑った

甘くてジューシーで

収穫したばかりのパイナップルが

育つ島に向かって

子供達の舌が

甘～い味に出会う

フルーツの色は

収穫の時の太陽のような色

月がのぼってくると

人々は夜の空を見ながら

みずみずしい果物を食べる

農園は

黄色に染まり熟した

パイナップルの

しま模様につつまれる
