My Original Leviathan Characters!

Today I drew variations of sea monsters called LEVIATHANS.

I have a wonderful book about mermaids called "The Secret History of Mermaids and Creatures of the Deep" by Professor Ari Berk, and I read about a leviathan in it.

It's a big sea monster that looks kind of like a snake or a dragon.

This is a leviathan:

I created different versions of leviathans and gave each a name. I wanted make the drawing look like a illustrated science book written in the middle age:

Note: I misspelled in my drawing; it is supposed to be LEVIATHAN, not LEVATHIAN!

☆　The Arctic Leviathan goes behind a ship, and then it pushes it forward with its horns at an extreme speed, which damages the hull. It then topples over the ship with its fins tearing the ship open, and then eats everyone on the vehicle.

☆　The Bengali Leviathan lives in the bay of Bengal. It has a head shaped like a boat, so when passerby’s boats come by, it capsizes the boats with its horns on its chin and eats everyone aboard.

☆　The Cornish Leviathan has small horns, and its tail is shaped like the hull of a boat. It scoops up a boat with its tail and bangs into it with the goat-like horns it has on its head. Once a gash has opened in the ship, it curls its tongue around its victims, drags them into its mouth, and swallows them whole.

☆　The Iceland Leviathan is less than 15 feet long, and it is the world’s smallest leviathan. However, don’t underestimate it by its size. It has a tail that sticks out of the water like a sail, which usually attracts tourist boats and yachts. It swims under the boat, and rams its horns, which look like a gazelle’s, straight into it. It uses its mouth to rip apart the ship, then eats the people aboard.

☆　 The Indian Leviathan lives in the Indian Ocean where it breeds every summer and spring. It sticks its tail out of the water, which looks like a whale’s, to attract tourists' cruise boats. Once a boat comes close enough, it opens its mouth, whose jaws are not jointed, but connected with a stretchy, strong, and thin layer of muscle. It rips the boat in half, eating the passengers on board.

☆　The Pacific Leviathan is the world’s largest leviathan. It captures a boat by circling itself around it, and then it spears the boat on the side with its spikes. It then sinks it by smashing it down with its tail, then going down to the bottom to eat the sunken passengers.

☆　The Switzerland Leviathan is much like the Iceland leviathan and the Bengali leviathan combined. It has a boat-like head and sail-like tail. Once a ship or boat comes close, it either smashes it forward violently and slices it in half with the knifelike structure on its head, or smashes it on its side with its tail. Unlike other leviathans who eat both men, women, boys, girls, and babies alike, it eats only children and infants, not adults.

私のオリジナル、海の怪獣キャラクター！

今日、私は、リヴァイアサン（旧約聖書に登場する海中の怪獣）と呼ばれる海の怪物の、色々なバージョンを作って描いてみました。

私は、アリ・バーク教授が書いた「人魚と深海生物たちの秘密の歴史」という本を持っています。その本の中で、リヴァイアサンについて読んだのです。

リヴァイアサンは、巨大な海の怪獣で、蛇または龍のような姿をしています。

私は、いろいろな種類のリヴァイアサンを作って、それぞれに名前をつけました。中世に書かれた図鑑のような感じにしたいと思って描きました。

絵の中で、リヴァイアサンの綴りを間違えてしまいました。LEVATHIAN ではなくて、LEVIATHAN です！

それから、それぞれのリヴァイアサンについての詳しい特徴も考えてみたので、興味のある人は、下の情報を読んでみてくださいね！

☆　The Arctic Leviathan/北極リヴァイアサンは、船の後ろにまわり、角を使い高速で押して船体を壊します。そして、ひれを使って船を引き裂き、すべての乗客を食べてしまいます。

☆　The Bengali Leviathan/ベンガルリヴァイアサンは、ベンガル湾に生息しています。頭はボートのような形をしていて、近くを船が通り過ぎる時に、顎に生えた角で船を転覆させ、乗っている人をみんな食べてしまいます。

☆　The Cornish Leviathan/コーニッシュリヴァイアサンは、小さい角を持っていていて、尻尾はボートの船体のような形をしています。尻尾で船をすくい上げ、頭に生えたヤギのような角で打ち叩きます。船に深い亀裂が入ったら、舌を人々に巻きつけ口の中に引きずり込み、丸呑みします。

☆　The Iceland Leviathan/アイスランドリヴァイアサンの長さは15フィート（4.5メートル）よりも短く、世界で最も小さいリヴァイアサンです。しかし、小さいからといって侮ってはいけません。アイスランドリヴァイアサンは水面から船の帆のような尻尾を出し、観光客のボートやヨットを引きつけます。そして船体の下にもぐり、ガゼルのような角を船底のど真ん中に衝突させます。さらに、口を使って船をバラバラにし、乗客を食べてしまいます。

☆　The Indian Leviathan/インドリヴァイアサンは、インド洋に生息し、毎年そこで春と夏に繁殖期を迎えます。鯨のような尻尾を水面から出し、観光客の乗ったクルーズ船をおびき寄せます。船が至近距離に入った途端に口を開けて（顎は関節でつながっているのではなく、伸縮性の高い薄い筋肉でつながっているので、口を大きく開くことができます）、船を真っ二つに引き裂き、乗客を食べてしいます。

☆　The Pacific Leviathan/太平洋リヴァイアサンは、世界で最大のリヴァイアサンです。船の周りに円を描くように泳ぎ、体で船を囲み、体から生えた突起物で船を突き刺します。尻尾で船を海の中に叩き落とし、海底で沈んだ乗客を食べます。

☆　The Switzerland Leviathan/スイスリヴァイアサンは、アイスランドリヴァイアサンとベンガルリヴァイアサンを合わせたような生き物です。ボートのような形をした頭を持ち、船の帆のような形をした尻尾を持っています。船が近づいてきたら、前方に船を投げつけ、頭にあるナイフのような突起物で船を真っ二つに切ったり、尻尾を船体に叩きつけたりします。他のリヴァイアサンが成人男性、成人女性、男児、女児、赤ん坊と区別なく捕食するのに対し、スイスリヴァイアサンは子供と乳児のみを食べ、大人は捕食しません。

注意：これらのリヴァイアサンは実在しません！…私が考えついた、想像上の生き物です！
